    Mourning salute in Groton marks 9/11

    Jim Leonaitis, front left, of North Stonington, a submarine veteran, fires a 10-gauge Winchester saluting cannon Tuesday as he and fellow members of the U.S. Submarine Veterans Groton Base hold a remembrance ceremony to mark the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The remembrance was held at the National Submarine Memorial in Groton. A total of 11 shots were fired at a rate of one per minute as a salute of mourning.
