A Norwich jury has found Dirren Conyers guilty of second-degree manslaughter and unlawful restraint for the 2008 death of Jose Cartagena in Groton.

Conyers, 35, faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on Nov. 21. In taking his case to trial, he had rejected an offer to plead guilty in exchange for a six-year prison sentence. The state had charged him with first-degree manslaughter but gave the jury the option of convicting him on the lesser charge of second-degree manslaughter. The jury began deliberating Monday afternoon.
