Crash sends Speedbowl driver to L&M

A Columbia driver was taken Wednesday to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a crash into the wall during a race at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Eric Finkbein suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash on lap 18 of a 20 lap race in the Super-X Car division, track spokesman Brian Darling said.

The race was stopped as the Cohanzie Fire Department, the track safety personnel, worked for about 10 minutes to extricate Finkbein from his vehicle. Cohanzie Fire Chief John Mariano said after the 7:40 p.m. wreck, the department called for its rescue truck and an ambulance as a precaution, in addition to the on-scene personnel.

"It was the worst wreck at the track this year," Mariano said. "Things went smoothly."

Darling said Finkbein was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
