Local colleges: UConn men lose in soccer quarters
Storrs - UConn's run in the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer tournament came to an end Sunday, when the Huskies lost to Creighton 1-0 in a quarterfinal at Morrone Stadium.
Creighton (17-3-3) scored at 88:30 when Christian Blandon's scored out of a scramble from six yards out. Jose Gomez assisted on the goal and Jeff Gal made four saves for Creighton.
Andre Blake made two saves for UConn (17-4-1), which outshot Creighton 10-2 in the second half and 13-10 overall. The loss snaps UConn's 38-game unbeaten streak at home and marks the second straight season that has ended in the quarterfinals.
Men's basketball
• Mitchell College lost to Wesleyan 82-52 in the consolation game of the Ed Hockenbury Classic at Norwich University. Joshua Ford, who was selected to the all-tournament team, had 12 points and eight rebounds and Anthony Epps scored 12 for Mitchell (3-3).
