During the rush of the holidays, taking time out to unwind and relax with children is very important. Even if it is only a few precious moments reading a booking, sharing a tradition, dancing to a favorite song or creating a craft, they will love the special time with you. School vacation is also a great time to create a 2012 keepsake together. It can be as elaborate as a memory book with photographs, or as simple as the activity described below.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Tell your child you are going to create a 2012 keepsake or reminder of all the special things they did this year.

2. Trace can twice on paper and cut it out.

3. Trace can on cardboard and cut out

4. Glue one sheet to each side

5. Cut photo and glue on one side

6. Trace your child's hand on light colored paper and cut out

7. Create a list with your child of all their big events this year. Write them on the hand and glue it on the opposite side. Depending on the child's age, you can include developmental milestones like walking, or learning to read; their favorite books and songs or even quotes or memories that you have noted throughout the year.

8. Enjoy your keepsake or give them as simple gifts. In the years to come, your child can measure his/her growth by comparing hand sizes.
