    Mystic Ballet Presents: Dynamic Directions

RETURNING FROM ITS NYC DEBUT AND PRIOR TO ITS JAPAN TOUR,MYSTIC BALLET LAUNCHES ITS DYNAMIC DIRECTIONS SERIES FEATURING SERGEI VANAEV’S SWAN LAKE

Performing US and world premieres for local audiences prior to national and international touring, Dynamic Directions underscores the deep commitment to a wide-ranging spectrum of classical and contemporary repertoire which has been central to Mystic Ballet’s mission from its inception. Artistic Director Goran Subotic developed the Dynamic Directions Series to showcase Mystic Ballet’s dance-makers.

Sergei Vanaev who has been inextricably bound to Mystic Ballet since its early years debuts his second ballet for the season. Combining his Bolshoi background with his own unique ingenuity, Vanaev creates a contemporary version of Swan Lake’s Act II to the dramatic score of Tchaikovsky. After an acclaimed debut in Europe, this powerful avant-garde re-telling premières in the US. The artists of Mystic Ballet unravel a story of love, betrayal, and sacrifice through the lives of two brothers; one fighting for his place in life and the other for the throne.

In addition to Vanaev’s Swan Lake, a powerful work by Lauren Edson, highlights the artistry and athleticism of MB dancers, and displays Edson’s pure and raw expression of rhythm and bodies. Back by popular demand is her “Sun and Steel”. Following Mystic Ballet’s performances of this exhilarating piece at the Salvatore Capezio Theater in NYC early January, it returns to Connecticut for an encore performance.

“…one of finely constructed beauty and serenity…The dance unfolded in a surreal landscape where the breadth of human emotion – the sublime and the raw – blossomed.” – Sharma Howard, The Day

Brian Enos’s romantic classical work that features the majestic tableaux of heart stopping beauty makes Dynamic Directions pure pleasure.
