Providence 69, Villanova 66

New London's Kris Dunn scored 13 points and had seven rebounds, Bryce Cotton scored 24 points and Vincent Council added 15 as Providence beat Villanova Saturday afternoon.

The game was a tale of two halves for Providence (10-8, 2-4 Big East). The Friars trailed 31-24 at halftime, but outscored Villanova (11-7, 2-3) 45-35 in the second half.

JayVaughn Pinkston paced the Wildcats from the start, scoring 10 of Villanova's first 13 points. The Wildcats went on a 15-2 run over a 4-minute span late in the first half.

Dunn had two steals in the first 2 minutes of the half, contributing to a team total of 12. He was also 7-for-10 from the free throw line.

Cotton hit a key 3-pointer with 1:02 left that appeared to seal the deal for the Friars, putting them up 63-57. After a Dunn dunk widened the lead to 65-57, Villanova cut the lead to 67-62, and a Dunn technical foul that led to two Ryan Arcidiacono free throws cut the margin to 67-64 with 26.4 seconds left. Villanova could not capitalize on the ensuing possession, however, and free throws by Dunn and Cotton put the game out of reach.

No. 20 Notre Dame 69, Rutgers 66

Jack Cooley had 19 points, 10 rebounds and blocked a shot with 2 seconds left to help Notre Dame hang on for a win over Rutgers, ending a two-game losing streak for the Fighting Irish.

Rutgers used a 6-1 run late to close to 67-66 when Eli Carter scored on a layup with 7 seconds left then forced a held ball on Eric Atkins two seconds later. Carter drove inside for the layup, but Cooley blocked the shot. Atkins then made a pair of free throws for the Irish (15-3, 3-2 Big East).

Myles Mack 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed as the Scarlet Knights (14-4, 3-3) lost for the ninth straight time at Notre Dame.

Pat Connaughton made four 3-pointers and added 17 points and Atkins had 14.

Carter led Rutgers with 20 points and Mack had 12.

St. John's 71, DePaul 62

Jamal Branch scored 18 points to lead St. John's to a victory over DePaul.

D'Angelo Harrison added 15 points and Sir'Dominic Pointer had 14 for the Red Storm (11-7, 3-3 Big East), who have won seven straight against DePaul.

Jamee Crockett scored 19 points for DePaul (10-8, 1-4), which has lost three in a row and five of its last six. St. John's last game was a 67-63 upset of No. 20 Notre Dame on Tuesday.

South Florida 61, Georgetown 58

Anthony Collins scored all 14 of his points in the second half, including a couple of free throws with 3 seconds remaining, to lead South Florida to its first Big East victory of the season.

Otto Porter scored 21 points for Georgetown, but lost control of the ball in the final seconds while the Hoyas (12-4, 2-3) were working for a game-winning shot.

Jawanza Poland led USF (10-7, 1-4) with 15 points, including two free throws with 3:40 left that stood as the Bulls' final points until Collins' foul shots.

Cincinnati 71, No. 25 Marquette 69

Sean Kilpatrick scored seven of his career-high 36 points in overtime, and Cincinnati blew a 16-point lead before rallying to a victory over Marquette, ending the Bearcats' streak of three straight home losses.
