Man Charged in House Fire
Police say an Old Saybrook couple are hospitalized in critical condition after a fire at their home, and the husband is facing criminal charges.
Police responding to a cell phone call early Friday said they found the house filled with smoke and woman screaming for help from the second floor. Neighbors said the woman jumped to safety. A police officer and a firefighter had minor injuries.
The Day of New London (http://bit.ly/WZ4XY7) reports 60-year-old Glenn Alburtus is facing charges including first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree threatening, first-degree unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct. He is under police guard at Bridgeport Hospital.
Police said his wife Susan Alburtus was in critical condition Friday at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Police Lt. Kevin Roche said the investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed. It's not known if Alburtus has a lawyer.
