Kelly Middle School student wins essay contest

Norwich – A Kelly Middle School sixth-grader will be honored by the Richard E. Hourigan Post 594 VFW as the first place winner in the “Patriot Pen” essay contest at an awards luncheon April 7.

Cameron Kurasz, a formerly Wequonnoc Elementary School student, was named first place winner in the contest held in November.

He will read his winning essay during the Men’s and Ladies’ Auxiliary Awards Luncheon April 7 at 1 p.m. at the VFW Post 594, 30 Connecticut Ave., Norwich.

The awards luncheon is open to the public. Tickets are $10 and must be reserved by Friday, April 5. Contact Loretta Wilson of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary at (860) 886-1715 or the Post at (860) 892-1400.
