Accomplished engineer talks to New London students for Women's History Month

New London — More than 100 students at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School listened to Marie Chabot, an accomplished female engineer, talk about her 27-year career Tuesday, March 19, in honor of Women’s History Month.

Chabot is the lead towed sonar array electrical engineer at the Submarine Technical Support Center in Groton. Her visit was part of an ongoing effort by Submarine Group Two and the Naval Submarine Base commands to reach out to students through science, technology, engineering and math.

“I think I was able to establish a connection with a few of the students,” Chabot said. “I hope that it will help them succeed later in their lives.”

Erica Watson, an eighth-grade science teacher at the middle school, said it’s important that students be exposed to ethnic minorities and females working in science, technology, engineering and math careers.
