MGM Grand at Foxwoods welcomes Il Divo
Note perfect: Il Divo, those popular purveyors of operatic pop, perform Friday at MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
Simon says: Before Simon Cowell worked his boy-band magic by being the guiding force behind One Direction, he did the honors with Il Divo. He recognized the fan base for singers with classical leanings - think The Three Tenors - and scouted for potential members of such a group.
International appeal: If you want a group to become a world-wide success, you might as well have musicians from all over the globe. Cowell brought together, as Il Divo, Urs Bühler (Switzerland), Sébastien Izambard (from France), Carlos Marín (Spain), and David Miller (America). And the success part? They've sold more than 26 million albums.
The company you keep: Il Divo toured with Barbra Streisand in 2006. The group has performed, too, at Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee concert and President Obama's inauguration ball.
