A 20-year-old East Lyme man who posted bond last month after town police charged him with trafficking Oxycodone was taken into custody during a court appearance today because he had twice tested positive for drug use.

Tyler Glendenning was one of three men arrested last month following a police investigation into drug trafficking in town. Acting on a tip that the suspects had driven to Brooklyn to pick up drugs, officers pulled over a car driven by James R. Douglas, 20, of Niantic, and said they found 713 Oxycodone 30 mg pills hidden in fake lint rollers and a Clorox bottle with a false bottom, more than $2,000 in cash and a stun gun.

Douglas and the car’s two occupants, Glendenning and 20-year-old Sean Connolly of Groton, were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of narcotics and illegal storage of narcotics. Douglas was also charged with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and carrying a dangerous weapon.

Glendenning had three other criminal cases pending at the time of his arrest and had posted a total of $85,500. As a condition of his release, the court ordered him to report to the Alternative in the Community program and submit to random urine testing. After learning today that Glendenning had twice tested positive for marijuana and cocaine, New London Superior Court Judge Susan B. Handy raised his bonds to $560,000 and told the judicial marshals to take him into custody.

Public Defender Bruce A. Sturman said Glendenning has a “significant drug problem” and that inpatient treatment may be an option for him in the future.

Glendenning’s next court date is June 4.
