22-pound lobster to be released
Jordan McCloy holds a 22-pound lobster on sale Monday at Abbott's Lobster in the Rough in Noank. Abbott's owner Deirdre Mears says the lobster will go for $200 to any person or persons who want to eat it, but $300 to anyone looking to release the crustacean. Mears added that she believes the lobster is a deep-sea catch from Canada. "It's eating oysters and seems to prefer the Prince Edward Island variety," she added.
CLARIFICATION: It would cost $300 to release the lobster because it would not survive if released locally but instead would need to released in cooler and deeper water, according to Abbott's. Abbott's has arranged to have the lobster securely held overnight and will be releasing the lobster Wednesday morning in waters near Race Rock.
