Mohegan Sun to sign agreement with Palmer, Mass., officials

Mohegan Sun and Palmer, Mass., officials will sign a host community agreement this week for development of Mohegan Sun Massachusetts, a nearly $1 billion resort casino planned for a Palmer site.

A signing ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Palmer Town Library. Mitchell Etess, chief executive officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority; Paul Brody, the authority’s project coordinator, and Palmer Town Manager Charlie Blanchard are among those expected to participate in the signing.

Palmer’s town council will consider the signed agreement at a meeting Sept. 3, at which time it is expected to set the date of a referendum on the casino plan.

Mohegan Sun Massachusetts, one of three projects expected to vie for the one casino license available for western Massachusetts, would feature gaming and resort amenities, two hotels, a 70,000-square-foot, adventure-themed water park and 300,000 square feet of entertainment, dining and fashion retail options.

It would be built on a 152-acre site off Exit 8 of the Massachusetts Turnpike.
