New London police arrest boy suspected of stealing bicycle from Terra Cyclery

New London — Police on Tuesday arrested a 14-year-old boy who they say broke into and stole a bicycle from the Terra Cyclery on Williams Street.

Police said at about 1:35 a.m. they responded to a report of a burglary in progress at the bike shop. Officers said they saw that a rear door had been forced open. When police entered the business, they found the teenager hiding inside.

Prior to arresting the juvenile, police said the teen had removed a bicycle from the business and placed it outside. He was also in possession of a sum of money believed to have been taken from the cash register.

Police said the juvenile also admitted to a previous burglary that occurred at the shop in August. During that burglary, two bicycles were reported stolen. The juvenile told police those bicycles were in his mother’s residence. Police said they were able to recover them.

The 14-year-old male, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief.
