Portion of Poquonnock Road will be closed today to allow for water main repair

Groton — Poquonnock Road between South and Buddington roads will be closed today to allow crews to repair a water main that broke Wednesday morning.

Crews discovered the break at a specialized T connection, which was probably installed about 80 years ago. The break was discovered shortly after 9 a.m.

Police said that westbound traffic will be diverted onto South Road to Runway Lane onto Tower Avenue to High Rock Road and back onto Poquonnock Road.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted onto Buddington Road to Gold Star Highway back onto North Road.

The road closure is expected to last all day, police said.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
