    Groton home fire ruled an arson

    Groton — A Sept. 20 fire at a Thames Street home that was under renovation has been ruled an arson.

    City police said Monday that the investigation revealed that the cause and origin of the fire was suspicious in nature.

    Firefighters from Groton City responded to the fire at 426 Thames St. at about 6:28 p.m. Fire officials at the time said they saw smoke coming out of the windows of the 2-1/2 story house and fire was reported in the basement.

    No one was home at the time of the fire.

    City police are asking for the public's assistance in finding any suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call the Detective Division at (860) 446-4186 or the Arson Tip Line at (800) 842-7766.

    The Arson Tip Award program offers up to an $2,500 award for information leading to the arrest and conviction in an arson fire.
