UConn picked second in AAC preseason poll

The first American Athletic Conference media day is this morning at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.

UConn is ranked second in the AAC preseason coaches’ poll, trailing unanimous pick Louisville, which received nine of the 10 first place votes.

Coaches aren’t allowed to vote for their own team, so the Huskies received Louisville coach Rick Pitino’s vote.

UConn’s Shabazz Napier made the first team and teammate Ryan Boatright received second team honors.

Here’s the complete poll: Louisville, UConn, Memphis, Cincinnati, Temple, SMU, Houston, South Florida, Central Florida and Rutgers.

Louisville’s Russ Smith was named the preseason player of the year and SMU’s Keith Frazier selected as the top rookie.

Here’s the complete first team: Napier, Smith, Cincinnati’s Sean Kilpatrick, Louisville’s Chane Behanan and Joe Jackson of Memphis.

Second team: Boatright, UCF’s Isaiah Sykes, Houston’s TaShawn Thomas, Louisville’s Montrezl Harrell, USF’s Anthony Collins and Victor Rudd.

Media day will begin with AAC commissioner Mike Aresco talking about the new league.

UConn coach Kevin Ollie, Napier, Boatright and DeAndre Daniels are here to meet with the media.
