Ford F-Series Super Duty: Still the heavyweight champ

The Ford F-Series Super Duty launched with best-in-class performance and capability, and a continuous stream of improvements for 2013 keeps this heavy-duty pickup at the head of the pack.

The 2013 Ford Super Duty remains the heavyweight champion of the segment, meeting customers' expectations of class-leading torque, horsepower, towing and payload to accompany its segment-best fuel economy. New for 2013 is the stylish Platinum edition, which combines unique design with comfort and convenience features never before seen in this category.


Super Duty Platinum, available in F-250, F-350 or F-450 pickup models with either the Ford-designed and Ford-built 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine or the 6.2-liter V8 gas engine, will offer a wealth of standard features including:

• SYNC with MyFord Touch, navigation and rear view camera

• Satin chrome surrounding a perforated mesh grille, with chrome tow hooks, door handles, mirror caps, running boards and exhaust tip, and a satin chrome tailgate appliqué

• 20-inch polished-aluminum wheels with painted black inserts

• Heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel with genuine wood accents, extensive interior wood grain, two USB ports, audio-video connections and SD card slot

• 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat; both captain's chairs are upholstered with softer, premium leather, which is also used on the armrests and console

• Remote Start System

• Power-telescoping mirrors and power-adjustable pedals


For the first time, the 2013 F-Series Super Duty is available with a truck- specific version of the award-winning voice-controlled connectivity SYNC system with MyFord Touch.

The trucker-friendly version offers tactile button controls and large rotating knobs to accommodate work gloves.

Drivers also get access to Vehicle Health Report and 911 Assist, both no-charge lifetime features, and SYNC Services including traffic alerts, business search and more.


The Ford-designed and Ford-built 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine delivers as much as 20 percent better fuel economy than the 6.4-liter it replaced. The engine also can run on up to B20 biodiesel fuel.

The Super Duty diesel provides better fuel economy than competitive General Motors and Ram diesel pickups, based on independent testing. The EPA does not rate this class.

The 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo-diesel is the cleanest Power Stroke diesel ever; eco-friendly CNG/LPG prep is available for the 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine

Each Super Duty pickup - diesel or gas - is mated to a heavy-duty TorqShift six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission.


Super Duty offers a class-leading array of airbags and safety systems including standard driver and front passenger airbags, side seat airbags and Safety Canopy side curtains with roll sensor.

Standard on all single-rear-wheel configurations are AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) and trailer sway control with hill start assist.

The AdvanceTrac control module uses additional software to monitor the truck's motion when a trailer is attached. Trailer sway control can determine from the yaw motion of the truck if the trailer is swaying and take measures - such as applying precise braking or reducing engine torque - to help reduce the trailer sway.


The Ford Super Duty offers an array of towing options from inside the bed thanks to the first-ever factory-installed and warranted fifth-wheel and gooseneck substructure directly attached to the frame. The electrical connection is mounted in the side of the bed wall, providing a clean installation.
