Toshiyuki Shimada conducts the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra for children from schools across the region Thursday in the second of two Young People's Concerts at the Garde Arts Center in New London. More than 2,200 students from Groton, Montville, Norwich and New London attended the two concerts on the theme "The Orchestra Loves a Parade," featuring marching music and concluding with "Stars and Stripes Forever," accompanied by dancers from the Eastern Connecticut Ballet. The concerts were funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut with further funding from Charter Oak Federal Credit Union.
