Norwich -A former New London police officer has returned to serve his native community.
Thomas Lawton, a three-year veteran of the New London Police Department, was sworn in Monday in Norwich, Chief Louis Fusaro said.
Lawton was born and raised in Norwich and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 2000. He is a former U.S. Marine with combat experience in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is currently in the Massachusetts Air National Guard.
Lawton fills a vacancy created when an officer left for a federal job.
Fusaro said Lawton would immediately begin his field orientation period with the patrol division.
