UPDATED: Pawcatuck fire deemed an arson

Stonington — An early morning fire at a two-family home at 125 Liberty St. has now been termed an arson by investigators.

Pawcatuck Fire Marshall Kevin Burns said a dog from the state fire marshal's office detected an accelerant at a few locations in the home after the 1 a.m. fire.

Three people who lived on the second floor were displaced by the fire and were assisted by the Red Cross. The fire appears to have started on the first floor, which was vacant at the time of the blaze. Burns said furniture and contents of the apartment were damaged but there was no structural damage to the apartment.

Burns, police detectives and the state fire marshal's office are investigating. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police detectives at 860-599-4411.
