Whaling City Ford in New London remains open after roof fire

New London — Whaling City Ford on Broad Street opened for business Thursday despite a late Wednesday night fire that happened on the roof.

Chuck Primus, vice president, said Thursday there was minor damage to the showroom stairwell. No cars were damaged.

“We open even in the nor’easter,” said Primus.

Fire Battalion Chief Keith Nichols said city firefighters responded to the fire at about 9:05 p.m. and had it under control in 30 minutes.

He said contractors earlier in the day were working in the area where the fire occurred. Nichols said the roof has since been secured and protected from the elements.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Primus said the dealership is currently undergoing renovation to its Ford and Lincoln showrooms. He thanked city firefighters and police for their quick and diligence response.
