New London — Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio has nominated New London native Stephanie Brown to the New London Board of Finance.

Brown is a fundraising campaign specialist for United Way and holds a bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University. She is the past president of the New London branch of the NAACP and served on the New London Police Community Relations Board.

Brown has served on the ISAAC School’s board of directors and is a member of the Connecticut Alliance for Business Opportunities.

“Ms. Brown brings valuable financial management experience to our Finance Board,” Finizio said in a press release issued Saturday. “She is a dedicated New Londoner who will commit herself fully to the task at hand. I look forward to seeing her confirmed to this important post.”

Brown was recommended to the mayor by City Councilor Erica Richardson. The City Council must approve the nomination.

Brown would replace former board chairwoman Sharon Griffis, who resigned last December.
