Kittery, Maine — The USS California submarine, whose home port is Groton, is at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for maintenance.

The fast-attack sub and its crew of 115 enlisted personnel and 15 officers docked at the shipyard on Sunday.

The Portsmouth Herald reports the California is the eighth Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine "built to excel in anti-submarine warfare" and other missions.

The California was commissioned on Oct. 29, 2011.
