Maynard Road status to get Montville town meeting vote

Montville - The Town Council voted unanimously Monday to schedule a town meeting at 6 p.m. July 8 at Town Hall so residents may vote on a resolution that would narrow the abandonment of Maynard Road from the entire road to a roughly 240-foot portion where no one lives.

The council voted to abandon the entire road in 1995 after the owners of a small shopping center at routes 163 and 82 asked the town to abandon "a small portion" of the road abutting the shopping center. The abandonment resulted in residents of the road losing town services such as snow plowing. Council Chairman Joseph Jaskiewicz said the council would hold a final vote on the matter after the town meeting, which is required by state statute.

Maynard Road resident Lynda Jean, who has fought to bring her and her neighbors' concerns to the town's attention for more than 10 years, thanked the council for sending the resolution to town meeting.

"Very good," she interjected after the vote.
