North Stonington to vote on school building project

North Stonington — Voters will head to the polls Monday in a referendum asking taxpayers to determine the fate of a $40.5 million school construction and renovation project encompassing all three schools: Wheeler High/Middle School and North Stonington Elementary School. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at North Stonington Town Hall.

Town officials hope to send plans to the state by June 30, the deadline for qualifying for state reimbursement on the proposed project. Depending on whether the town receives an additional state waiver, its portion of the project cost would be either $25.8 million or $22.4 million, according to officials.

A $47 million school facilities renovation plan failed at referendum in May.
