Old Saybrook police raid home, recover guns
Old Saybrook – Investigation into the theft of 16 guns from an Old Saybrook gun shop has led to recovery of three guns and a raid Friday at a Fenwood Drive home.
On Tuesday, police arrested 25-year-old Thomas Russo of 79 Fenwood Drive for allegedly breaking into the Grouse Perch gun shop and stealing 13 handguns and three high-powered rifles. Police said they recovered numerous firearms and heroin from inside an Old Saybrook home following a standoff with Russo.
On Friday, Old Saybrook Police Chief Michael A. Spera said the continuing investigation led to execution of a search and seizure warrant at 66 Fenwood Drive. The search so far has yielded evidence to support drug-related crimes, he said in a statement.
Additionally, Spera said police have recovered three more guns, including a Bushmaster AR-15 and a loaded assault-style shotgun from a wooded area in Fenwick known as the Grove, which is a conservation area.
The investigation remains active, Spera said.
