Elaine Bromka stars in "Tea for Three: Lady Bird, Pat & Betty"

Elaine Bromka as Betty Ford in her one-woman show portraying three first ladies.

Back in 2002, PBS aired a show called "The Presidents" that showcased Rich Little playing a series of Leaders of the Free World, from John F. Kennedy to George W. Bush. Providing the First Lady component was actress Elaine Bromka, who played a total of eight of the White House spouses.

Bromka was so taken with the FLOTUS roles and their accompanying histories that she sparked with an idea: to create a one-woman show about some First Ladies. She approached dramatist Eric H. Weinberger, and the duo co-created "Tea for Three: Lady Bird, Pat & Betty."

Bromka has performed the one-woman piece to acclaim off-Broadway and around the U.S., and she's bringing it to Connecticut College for a Saturday show.

First ladies aside, the actress has had a long career on TV, film and stage. She was the mom in "Uncle Buck" and psycho Stella Lombard on "Days of Our Lives." She appeared alongside Vanessa Redgrave in "Playing for Time" on TV" and alongside Mercedes Ruehl and Anthony La Paglia in "The Rose Tattoo" on Broadway.
