    Morgan sails again

The whaling ship Charles W. Morgan celebrated the completion of its five-year restoration with a triumphant summertime tour of historic New England ports.

The 173-year-old ship's 38th voyage, its first in 93 years, attracted massive crowds beginning with its May 17 departure from Mystic Seaport and ending with its arrival back home on Aug. 6.

In between, the world's last surviving wooden whaling ship visited New London; Newport, R.I.; Vineyard Haven, Mass.; New Bedford, Mass., where it was built and launched in 1841; the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, where it sailed among whales; Boston, where it docked next to the USS Constitution; and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where it helped celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Cape Cod Canal.

The ship is back on display at the Seaport but future trips have not been ruled out.
