Florida shipbuilder makes donation of $250,000 for Coast Guard Museum

Eastern Shipbuilding, headquartered in Panama City, Fla., is the latest corporate sponsor of the National Coast Guard Museum in the works for downtown New London. The National Coast Guard Museum Association announced Thursday that Eastern Shipbuilding has donated $250,000 to the effort.

The museum association recently hosted an event honoring the first 100 donors to contribute to the campaign. Treasurer John Johnson announced that the museum association had raised more than $24 million, which includes a $20 million commitment from the state for the design, engineering and construction of a pedestrian bridge to connect Water Street to the museum, which will be adjacent to Union Station.

The first corporate sponsors were Dime Bank and Saybrook Point Inn and Spa, which each gave $15,000. Other corporate donors have contributed to the campaign, but they have chosen not to publicize their donations, according to Pamela Fink of Quinn & Harry, which is handling media relations for the museum association.
