Book tip: John Sandford's latest Flowers novel a winner

    Deep Freeze, John Sandford

I feel bad for John Sanford. Despite his massive success — and presumed wealth — as the result of his dueling and bestselling crime novels based on, respectively, Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers, we fans are constantly complaining. Why? Because, even though Sanford manages to write one Davenport and one Flowers every year — and they're almost always ridiculously good — we need more. Like, one every two weeks. Each book gets published, we read it in six or seven hours and ... where's the next one?! That's gratitude for ya. Well, "Deep Freeze," the latest Flowers episode, came out on Oct. 17, and it's among the best of the 10-volume series. The oft-hilarious Flowers, a star investigator for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehensions, gets embroiled in a classic small town mystery having to do with a small town high school reunion, porno Barbie Dolls and a body fished out of an icy river. Clever, crafty and great fun.
