Bridgeport — It took a little bit of time for East Lyme to get revved up on Monday.

Alec Kosinski scored five minutes into the second overtime as the No. 21 Vikings overcame an early deficit to beat No. 12 Bassick 2-1 in the first round of the CIAC Class L boys' soccer tournament.

Joel Richards scored 15 minutes into the game to give the Lions the lead.

Luke Wojcik tied the game on a penalty kick with four minutes left in regulation.

East Lyme (9-8-2) outshot Bassick 20-8.

“Traveling to Bridgeport is always difficult (time-wise),” Vikings head coach Paul Christensen said. “Then getting out of school in the early afternoon, it took us a little bit to get our legs under us. Then we were okay. The problem has been taking advantage of opportunities, but they found a way to get out of there and move on."

Sean Heaney had six saves for East Lyme. Gustavo Poblano had 12 saves for the Lions.

The Vikings will play host to No. 28 RHAM on Wednesday in a second round game at 2 p.m. RHAM beat No. 5 Prince Tech/University 5-3.

“They've lost twice for E.O. Smith and to Tolland, so their record is very deceptive,” Christensen said about RHAM. “They’re a very good tam.”

In other games:

• Eighth-seeded Bethel defeated No. 25 Fitch 3-2 in the Class L first round, scoring three times in the second half to overcome a 1-0 halftime defeict, Giovanni Valentine, assisted by Tyler Cady, scored in the first half for the Falcons, who finish 7-10-1, while Thomas Taber converted a penalty kick in the second half. Also, Weston Jacey made seven saves.

• No. 18 Bulkeley overcome 2-0 and 3-1 deficits before eliminating No. 15 Ledyard 5-4 on penalty kicks in the Class M first round. After both teams went 1-for-5 in the first round of PKs, the Bulldogs made 4 of 5 in the second round and the Colonels converted 3 of 5. Trevor Hutchins, Ian Kamperschroer and Fabian May scored goals for Ledyard (13-6-2) while Nate McCracken had two assists and goalie Ken Turner made eight saves.

• MacDuffie defeated Williams School 4-1 in the semifinals of the SENE tournament. Nick Chirillo, assisted by Harry Anselmi, scored in the second half for the Blues, who trailed 3-0 at the half.

Girls' soccer

• Morgan Pill had two goals and two assists as second-seeded Williams routed No. 3 Rocky Hill (R.I.) 8-2 in the semifinals of the SENE tournament. The Blues will visit No. 1 St. Andrew's at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the championship game in Barrington, R.I. Katia Bourganos scored twice, Grace Powell had a goal and an assist and Kayla Capano, Ellie Fader and Carolyn Xenelis each scored once for Williams.

Volleyball

• Gretchen Dusza had 62 assists and Molly Kosma added 40 digs as No. 12 Waterford rallied from a two-game deficit to beat No. 21 Woodland 17-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-13 in the Class M first round.

“The kinds fought incredibly hard and showed incredible heart after getting their backs to the wall down 0-2,” Lancers head coach Matt Maynard said. “They showed true character.”

Olivia Pacheco had 14 kills and Ryleigh Gonyo 13 kills for Waterford (15-7), which will play at fifth-seeded Valley Regional in Wednesday's second round. Valley swept No. 28 Bulkeley 25-7, 25-12, 25-9.

• Jamie Stevens had 38 assists and four aces and Sydney Iannantuono added 17 kills and 10 assists as No. 17 East Lyme knocked off No. 16 Branford 25-20, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18 in a Class L first-round match. Madison Bell had 13 digs and six aces for East Lyme (13-8) and Lauren Imbriaco added eight kills and eight digs. The Vikings play at top-seeded and defending champion RHAM in Wednesday’s second round at 6 p.m. The Sachems have won six state titles the past 10 seasons.

• Courtney Majewski had 10 aces and 10 digs as No. 11 Norwich Tech rolled to a 25-10, 25-20 and 25-18 win over No. 22 Abbott Tech in the Class S first round. The Warriors (16-7) will play at No. 6 Coginchaug in Wednesday's second round. Kaitlyn Gifford added five aces and five assists for Norwich Tech.
