Bold has 48 saves as Black Wolves edge Knighthawks 9-8
Rochester, N.Y. — Aaron Bold had 48 saves as the New England Black Wolves edged the Rochester Knighthawks 9-8 on Saturday night in a National Lacrosse League game.
Bold was one save short of his career record.
Stephan Leblanc (2 goals, 4 assists) and Shawn Evans (goal, 5 assists) each had six points in the win for New England (3-1).
Cody Jamieson had two goals and four assists for the Knighthawks (2-3) and Joe Resetarits added two goals and two assists.
The Black Wolves took over the game in the third quarter after being tied at 5 at halftime.
Leblanc scored his second goal one minute, 31 seconds into the third quarter. Rochester’s Austin Shanks tied it 50 seconds later.
David Brock scored his second goal of the season to put New England ahead to stay with 8:47 left in the third. Leblanc intercepted a pass and fed Seth Oakes for a goal to push the Black Wolves ahead, 8-6, with 1:41 remaining in the quarter.
Kevin Crowley scored to extend his scoring streak to 23 games and gave New England a 9-6 edge with 11:51 to play.
Resetarits scored with 1:57 remaining for Rochester. Jamieson scored on a penalty shot with 20 seconds left to cut New England’s lead to 9-8, but the Black Wolves held on for the win.
Dan Dawson scored 53 seconds into the game to give the Knighthawks the initial lead. Kevin Buchanan tied it shortly thereafter.
Kyle Jackson scored to give Rochester a 2-1 lead. Leblanc tied the game on a power play with 3:45 left in the first quarter.
Jamieson scored with 1:15 remaining in the quarter. Buchanan tied it again with 35 seconds remaining in the period.
Shanks opened the second quarter with a goal for Rochester, but Buchanan scored again once again tie the game.
Resetarits scored with 4:13 left in the half. Evans scored on an assist by Adam Bomberry with 47 seconds left in the half to tie the game at 5.
