    Local roundup: Scott leads Stonington past Bacon in boys' basketball

    Colchester  — Zach Scott scored 16 as Stonington rallied from an early double-digit deficit to beat Bacon Academy on Tuesday, 65-52, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' basketball game.

    Lennox Deer had 14 points and Marquis Jackson and Jacob Geary scored 10 points each for Stonington (7-8, 4-2). Geary also had seven rebounds for the Bears, who trailed 12-0 early and 24-10 after one quarter.

    Jared Smith scored 19 for the Bobcats (8-5, 3-2).

    In other games:

    • Williams School lost to St. Andrew's on Monday, 69-44. Zain Alam had 19 points and Grayson Guinan scored 10 for Williams (1-8).

    Women's basketball 

    • Mairead Hynes had 18 points and nine rebounds as Connecticut College downed Eastern Connecticut, 72-56. Reserve Casey Walsh scored 15 for Conn (13-6) and Meggie Corcoran had seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Sabrina LeMere had 21 points and four rebounds for the Warriors (9-11) and Mya Villard added 12 points and eight rebounds.

    • Reserve Dejia Santana had eight points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes of play as Mitchell overwhelmed winless Bay Path, 57-30, in a New England Collegiate Conference game. Reserve Jessica Lohneiss scored 10 for the Mariners (9-11, 8-3) and Kate McCormack added 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Shameria Armstead had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (0-18, 0-11).

    • Avery Point won its fifth straight game, beating Bristol Community College 99-58 in an NJCAA Region 21 game. Megan Bianchi led the Pointers with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Edona Thaqi had 24 points and seven rebounds and Hannah LeBeau had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Avery Point (14-5, 6-1).  

    Men's basketball

    • Jacee Hamelin had 21 points and 11 assists as Avery Point downed Holyoke CC, 87-73. Elijah Malbouef Boyd 11 points and eight rebounds for Avery Point and Stonington’s Amadi White and New London’s Tyrel Martinez both scored 12.

    • St. Thomas More lost to Brewster Academy, 91-67. Everette Hammond had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists for T-More (14-9).

    Women's hockey

    • Freshman Erin Dillon had a goal and an assist in the third as Connecticut College beat UMass Boston 4-2 in a nonleague game. Katlyn Paiva, Elena Gualtieri and Lily Connolly had goals, Bailey Mertz made 15 saves and Jordan Cross and Lauren Helm had assists for Conn (12-3-3). 

    H.S. girls' basketball 

    • Makayla Poirier-Vaughters finished with 13 points and Zoe Furman-Cox had 10 for NFA in a 39-29 victory over Ledyard in an ECC Division I game Monday. Julia Lavin had 10 points and Jade Langworthy made two 3-point field goals for Ledyard (6-8, 1-4). NFA is 10-4, 2-2.

    H.S. boys' soccer

    • Ethan Rose, Montville's senior all-stater, will play at Keene State next season, according to Montville coach Colin Delaney. The midfielder/forward, who plans to major in the field of nursing, will become the 37th player in program history to commit to play at the college level.

    Division III Keene State has become a perennial college soccer power, ranked as high as No. 1 in regional rankings and in the top 25 nationally. Rose was a four-year starter for Montville. He played in 73 games and had 27 goals and 25 assists, for 79 career points.

    Rose helped the Indians to an ECC divisional championship in 2015, three ECC tournament berths, three CIAC state tournament berths, and three ALS Cup Championships during his four years on the team. He's a three-time All-ECC selection, CSCA Senior Bowl selection, and made The Day's All-Area team. He's also premier club soccer for the past 10 years, competing for Southeast Soccer Club.
