OutCT hosts its annual fashion show at Ocean Beach Sunday

Drag culture has taken a strong hold in New London's gay community as of late, and this weekend will be a chance to see that come to life while also helping support a great cause.

OutCT, a New London-based nonprofit that works to recognize the ever-flourishing LGBTQ community throughout southeastern Connecticut, will be holding its annual fashion show at Ocean Beach Park Sunday. Besides a full-length fashion show featuring models dressed in drag with the theme of “fairytales,” the benefit will also showcase ongoing drag performances, as well as an all-out dance party that is expected to last well into the night. Pre-show hors d’ouevres will be up for grabs, along with a silent auction, an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet and a cash bar for added entertainment.

All proceeds will benefit outCT’s Youth Program, which offers a monthly space for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and allied youth in the region to find social, peer-to-peer, life-skills and career-building services.

OutCT’s Born This Way Fashion Show, 5 p.m., Sunday at Port N Starboard Ocean Front Banquet Center at Ocean Beach Park, 1225 Ocean Ave., New London; $60 in advance, $80 at the door; (860) 967-7931.

Pet dons their Easter bonnets for contest in Mystic

I’ve always owned dogs who disliked being dressed in any clothing — no rain boots (we tried that because it sounded like a cute idea to combat muddy paws), no jackets (one dog Houdini-ed his way out of a thundershirt) and no hats. Which is why I love that people have docile...
