ECC tennis: Stonington girls dominate on Day 1 of tournament

Stonington — All four Stonington High School singles players won their opening round matches in the Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' tennis tournament on Tuesday.

Most of the first round matches were completed before rain halted play. Action will resume on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., using both the high school and community center courts, and tournament officials are hoping to complete all singles and doubles play through the quarterfinals.

Junior Gabby Dellacono, the two-time defending champion and top seed, won her opener 8-0 while No. 2 Charlotte Johnstone (8-3), No. 8 Makenzie Sadler (8-4) and No. 21 Hannah Middleton (8-2) also advance to the second round.

Middleton and Bacon Academy's Caroline Banning (No. 20) were the lowest seeds to advance.

In doubles plays, Stonington's No. 17 seeded team of Holly Foster and Cassie Onorato won 8-0. They will play the Bears' top-seeded team of Margot Goodman and Ainsley Johnstone in the second round. Goodman and Johnstone had a first-round bye.
