Sheila E. plays the Kate on Sunday

Percussionist/singer/songwriter Sheila E. is bound to blow the roof off the joint when she gives a concert Sunday at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

The show is being filmed for “The Kate,” the television series produced by CPTV that airs around the country. “The Kate” features performances at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, with past stars including Ann Wilson of Heart, John Oates and Darlene Love.

Sheila E. has a reputation for giving fiery performances, so her gig at the Kate should be amazing. I’m guessing she'll pull out her two biggest hits, “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre,” and it’ll be interesting to see what else she plays. Maybe she'll feature songs from her recent release, “Iconic: Message 4 American,” an album that features, as guests, Ringo Starr, George Clinton, and more.

Those aren’t the only luminaries she’s performed with over the years. Include in that list Beyoncé, Marvin Gaye, and Lionel Richie. And, of course, she was a protegee of Prince’s; they were even engaged for a while and remained friends after the romance ended.

Sheila E., 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $50-$55; (860) 510-0453.
