    Local roundup: Crandall leads East Lyme to field hockey victory

    East Lyme — Morgan Crandall scored two goals and had an assist as East Lyme High School beat Fitch/Ledyard 4-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference field hockey game Thursday. 

    Katie Durkee had two assists, Kristen Healy and Maya Rose scored goals and Nancy Alden had an assist for the Vikings (4-1, 3-0). Fitch/Ledyard is 2-4, 2-3.

    In other games:

    • Ellie Korinek scored four goals as Stonington beat Norwich Free Academy 12-1 in an ECC game. Olivia Monte had three goals, Miranda Arruda and Sarah Flakus had two goals each and Sandy McGugan had two assists for Stonington (5-0-1, 4-0). Colette Dreher also scored and Casey Beaumont had an assist for Stonington. Saige Gwynn scored for NFA in the first half, the first goal of the season for the Wildcats (0-7, 0-6).

    H.S. boys' cross country

    • East Lyme took the top three spots as it swept a quad-meet, beating Lyman Memorial 16-45, Waterford 19-37 and Woodstock Academy 16-40 in an ECC Division I meet. Sam Whittaker won the race with a time of 17:20, followed by Chris Abbey (17:21) and Noah Barnhart (17:28). East Lyme is 6-0, 1-0. Waterford rounded out the top five with Aidan Pepin (17:29) and Sam Lenes (17:34). Waterford (2-3) beat Woodstock 24-35 and Lyman 21-40.

    H.S. girls' cross country

    • East Lyme beat Woodstock Academy 25-30 in the ECC Division I opener for both teams. East Lyme (5-0) also beat Lyman Memorial 19-36 and Waterford 15-40. Woodstock's Linsey Arends won the race in 20:19 and teammate Stella Dipippo was second in 20:38. The top five was rounded out by East Lyme's Madison Sjostrom (20:52), Lyman's Jessica Carey (21:00) and East Lyme's Samantha Lyster (21:06). Waterford (0-5) lost to Woodstock 16-47 and Lyman 18-41.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Old Lyme lost to Hale-Ray in a Shoreline Conference match, 25-8, 25-15, 25-12. Clair Wholean had six assists and seven service points and Taylor Thompson had six kills for Old Lyme.

    • Grasso Tech lost to Cheney Tech in a CTC match, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18. Michelle Warren had 28 digs and three kills, Samarie Delgado had 18 digs and Grace Hugee had 12 digs for Grasso.  

    Women's soccer

    • Mitchell College lost to Old Westbury in a nonleague game, 1-0. Drew Johndrow made nine saves for Mitchell (1-7).
