Shelton, North Haven face off in matchup of teams ranked in The Day's Top 10 poll

It was a pretty uneventful high school football weekend with most conferences on bye weeks, resulting in almost no movement in The Day's Top 10 state coaches’ poll.

Business picks up this week, though.

Fifth-ranked Shelton plays at No. 9 North Haven on Friday in a game between the only two unbeaten teams left in the Southern Connecticut Conference’s Tier I. Both are 5-0.

Shelton is the defending Tier I champ and has been holding steady at No. 5 all year. The Indians moved into a ninth-place tie this week with idle Southington (5-0) after going on the road last Friday and giving Brookfield its first loss of the season, 17-7.

Other games of interest this week are all Friday night at 6:30: RHAM (5-0) at Berlin (5-0); Rockville (5-0) at Stafford/East Windsor/Somers (5-0); Wethersfield (3-2) at Maloney (4-1); and Windsor (4-1) at Norwich Free Academy (3-2).

Berlin and Windsor are both receiving votes. Maloney was previously ranked 13th but lost all of its votes after being upset by Bristol Central last Friday, 29-22.

No Eastern Connecticut Conference teams received votes for the second straight week.
