    East Lyme boys, girls sweep ECC cross country titles

    [naviga:iframe frameborder="0" height="240" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PLPE0rqtAhli-Ib-xsvoEQ3PMdfcH2U2Am" width="100%"] [/naviga:iframe]Norwich — East Lyme High School's Chris Abbey, Sam Whittaker and Noah Barnhart finished 1-2-3 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference boys' cross country championship Thursday at Norwich Golf Club, lifting the Vikings to the team title with 35 points.

    Abbey, a junior, crossed the finish line of the 5,000-meter race in 17 minutes to edge Whittaker (17:25), the defending champion.

    Waterford's Aidan Pepin was fourth and Bacon Academy's Andrew Janus fifth.

    Norwich Free Academy finished second in the team standings with 61 points.

    Bacon freshman Jordan Malloy won the girls' race in 20:25, giving her the victory over defending champion Mady Whittaker of Montville (20:29). Woodstock Academy's Linsey Arends was third, St. Bernard's Brigid Kunka fourth and Woodstock's Stella DiPippo fifth.

    East Lyme won the girls' team title with 57 points. Woodstock was second with 83.
