Officials: Local man illegally trafficked guns from Georgia

A local man who officials said trafficked seven firearms from Georgia to Connecticut pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Hartford to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Officials with the U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut said police found two firearms — a Beretta 9mm pistol and a Jimenez Arms 9mm pistol — in the New London home of Quadell Daniels, 32, when they searched it in July 2017.

Officials said they learned Daniels had given his girlfriend cash to buy a total of seven guns from a pawn shop in Hinesville, Ga., in April 2017 and July 2017. Daniels then transported the guns to Connecticut.

Investigators found just two of the seven firearms in Daniels’ former residence in New London.

Daniels was convicted in Connecticut state court in 2012 of attempt to commit second-degree assault — a Class D felony — and possession of a firearm without a permit.

Daniels was arrested in December 2017 but is free on a $100,000 bond. He is due to be sentenced June 3 in the case, which officials said is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together multiple levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime.

Daniels faces a maximum prison term of 10 years.

In a separate case, Groton City police charged Daniels on March 8 with second-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, second-degree burglary and risk of injury to a minor, and listed his address as 13 Ledyard Ave. in Groton.

He is due in New London Superior Court on March 26 in that case. Further details weren't immediately available.
