Satti to lead New London St. Patrick's Day parade

New London — City Councilor John D. Satti will serve as grand marshal of Sunday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the parade committee announced this week.

A New London native, Satti is the son of Maureen (Griffin) and C. Robert Satti Sr. and is a retired state probation officer and owner of Satti’s Lawn Care. He has served two terms on the city’s school board and is in his second term on the City Council.

John has been a communicant of the St. Joseph Church for more than 50 years and is proud to have attended more than his fair share of "Shamrock Teas." Although his surname is Italian, John is three-quarters Irish in that his mother was full Irish (Miller/Griffin) and his father was half Irish because his mother was a Heffernan.

John has spent many years working with the youth of the community. He has been affiliated with Little League Baseball, the Boy Scouts of America and as a youth wrestling coach in New London, Waterford and at Saint Bernard High School for more than 20 years.

This year’s parade, which will proceed rain or shine, will comprise local bands, civic groups, Irish civic organizations and youth groups. Included among the local groups participating are New London Firefighters Pipe & Drum Band, Irish Wolfhounds of New England, The Ancient Order of Hibernians and New London Public Schools.

The parade starts at 1 p.m. and kicks off at the corner of Bank and Tilley streets. The parade will proceed north on Bank Street, turning left up State Street and then proceed to Washington Street. The review stand will be at the corner of Bank and State streets at Parade Plaza.
