New London — The New London Fire Department said it extinguished a vehicle fire on Interstate 95 northbound prior to Exit 85 that was reported at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday.

"When the New London Fire Department arrived on scene the vehicle's engine compartment was heavily involved in fire and extending to the passenger compartment of the vehicle," the fire department said in a news release. "New London Firefighters quickly deployed a hoseline to extinguish the fire."

There were no injuries, but the incident caused traffic issues for about 30 minutes, said Mark Waters, battalion chief.
