William Shatner on hand for Garde screening of "Wrath of Khan" Saturday

Actor William Shatner (Steven Senne/AP Photo)

Eighty-seven-year-old professional Famous Man William Shatner appears the Garde Arts Center on Saturday. He will take the stage after a screening of arguably the best "Star Trek" film, "The Wrath of Khan," and will regale fans with stories and answer questions not just about "Khan" but also about his entire multifaceted career.

Oh, do I need to clarify for anyone that Shatner is the actor who portrayed Captain James T. Kirk, the main character in the "Star Trek" television series and the early film spinoffs?

    I didn't think so.

But Shatner is nearly as famous for a multitude of other activities throughout the realms of television, film, music, publishing, philanthropy, advertising, and on and on. He's very funny, promises a totally ad lib presentation, and isn't beyond genuine self-effacement. Local radio personality Lee Elci will moderate the discussion.

    Should be quite an evening.

William Shatner Live! with "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan," 7:30 p.m. Saturday film screening with Shatner discussion to follow; Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $49-$69; (860) 444-7373, gardearts.org.
