Communication Workers of America Local 1298 has authorized a strike against Frontier Communications, with 93 percent of members voting in favor, the local announced on its website Friday evening.

This does not necessarily mean a strike will be called.

"This sends a very loud and clear message to Frontier that we are united and willing to do what it takes to get a fair and equitable contract for all of our members," the message read. "United We bargain, divided We beg!"

The local is the only one that covers Frontier members in Connecticut.

Local President David Weidlich said last week that the dispute was over job security but he was optimistic the union could reach an agreement with Frontier without striking. The union's current contract expires Oct. 14.
