Preston man dies in one-vehicle crash on Route 165

A 74-year-old Preston man is dead after his vehicle struck a tree on Route 165 on Thursday night, state police say.

Robert Kleemann, of 44 Swantown Road, owner of Kleemann Auto Parts LLC in Norwich, was driving his 2007 Isuzu east on Route 165 about 5:52 p.m. when he crossed the center road divider into the westbound lane, then traveled off the roadway and into a tree, causing his car to overturn, a state police accident report says.

Kleemann was transported to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, where he was pronounced dead.

Police do not know what caused the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police Trooper Zachary Cash at the Troop E barracks in Montville at (860) 848-6500 or by email at zachary.cash@ct.gov.
