Be an Angel: Local massage therapist seeking help for cancer treatment

Jayme Allen, a native of New London, is a natural caregiver and a lover of humanity. Her passion led her to pursue a career in massage therapy. Graduating from the Bancroft School of Massage in Worcester, Mass., in 1986, she has been a dedicated, full-time massage therapist at the Norwich Inn and Spa for 32 years. Her exceptional healing touch has made her one of the most popular therapists at the spa. Some of her famous clients included Barbara Streisand, Bill Blass, Brooke Shields, Placido Domingo and Roseanne Barr.

Now Jayme needs some care for herself. She has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma. By the grace of God, and under the careful watch of her angels, this disease was caught early enough for her to receive treatment. She has taken on this health challenge in an exemplary manner and continued to work full-time at the spa while she went through seven rounds of chemotherapy.

    Yes, seven rounds.

She still has more treatments to come and a possible stem cell transplant. Jayme has had to discontinue working at this point and needs our help to offset additional costs that insurance does not cover.

Jayme’s family and friends have organized a fundraiser to help Jayme. Join us from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at The Birdseye Café, 187 Jefferson Ave., New London, for steak, potato, ziti, salad, raffles and more. Tickets are available at The Birdseye Cafe, $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

If you would like to donate but are unable to attend, stop by The Birdseye Café during business hours. The family and friends of Jayme Allen would like to “Thank You” in advance for all your generosity and kindness.
