Creating a scrapbook is a great way to preserve memories of events and special moments for future generations.

But not everyone has the freedom of movement to do scrapbooking; sometimes family and friends with multiple sclerosis cannot participate in the activities. They have difficulty with balance and coordination and suffer with fatigue, pain and vision problems.

Scrapbook Cove in Mystic, owned by Roni Ploof, has seen the effects of MS first-hand and is currently doing fundraising for the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, a nonprofit organization assisting people affected by MS including MRI diagnostic programs, equipment and education. Raising funds for MSAA is our way of helping people with MS join in events and make memories.

The cause is important to us. Several customers have MS, and so did the owner’s mother who was a crafter, and recently her daughter, Jen Stark-Drury, was diagnosed.

“With the help of MSAA, living with MS is more manageable for me than it was for my grandmother,” Stark-Drury said. “Advancement of treatments and research make me hopeful for a cure.”

Louise Christie, a customer, said she knows a friend afflicted with MS since age 19 who now needs help with the most basic chores.

“I’m thankful for Scrapbook Cove raising awareness,” she said.

MS affects more than a million across the United States and is the most common neurological disorder diagnosed in young adults.

All of the raffle donations and cards will benefit MS.
