Movie tip: "Parasite"
What an enthralling movie this is — no wonder if won the top prize at this year’s Cannes film festival. “Parasite” melds a haves-versus-have-nots satire with a flat-out thriller. It’s set in South Korea, focusing on a family that is living in a cramped basement apartment, making what little money they do by folding pizza boxes. When the son lucks out by getting a job as an English tutor for a rich family’s daughter, he sees an opportunity and manipulates things so his sister and then father and mother can get jobs in the wealthy household. I won’t say much more, except see this film. “Parasite” was directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also came up with the story and co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin-won, and I fully expect their names to turn up at this year’s Oscars.
